MLB Baseball - Chicago Cubs

The city of Chicago was originally set up as a trading center in 1837. The Great Chicago Fire in 1871 took down nearly the entire city as most building were made from wood. This might have been the end but Chicagoans were determined to rebuild the city and make it better than it ever was. It now houses many landmarks such as Millennium Park Willis Tower and of course Wrigley Field.

The Chicago Cubs are one of two major league baseball teams playing in Chicago Illinois. Sports fans in Chicago are divided between the Cubs who play at the historic Wrigley field and the White Sox who play at U.S. Cellular Field. Though the teams are members of different leagues (the Chicago Cubs are part of the National League whereas the Chicago White Sox participate in the American League) they hold a fierce rivalry and sports fans from all over Illinois go to the Crosstown Series to cheer on their respective team. If this rivalry wasn't enough the team also has beef with the St. Louis Cardinals the major league baseball team that plays out of Anheuser Busch stadium in Saint Louis Missouri. Despite loyal sports fans only twice in their long history have they taken home the World Series Pennant in 1907 and 1908. A lot of sports fans hold onto interesting superstitions and the Cubbies are no different. In 1945 a man named Billy Sianis wanted to go see a baseball game...with his goat. He purchased two tickets and entered the stadium. There were complaints about the foul smell of the animal and so he (and his goat) were asked to leave. At this point he put a curse on the team swearing that they would not win anymore because of what they did to him. Many people think that this is what has caused the Cubbies the World Series year after year. Whether the curse will ever be broken still remains to be seen but the fans will be in the stands to cheer them on either way.
