NFL Football - Atlanta Falcons

Georgia, also known as the Peach State and Empire Stateof the South has an estimated 9.8 million residents (as of July 1, 2009), making it the ninth most populous state.   Many Fortune 500 aswell as Fortune 1000 companies are headquartered in Georgia including Coca Cola, UPS, Home Depot, AFLAC, Suntrust Bank and Delta Airlines.  Georgia'smain airport Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world's busiest passenger airport.  Georgia has many excitingattractions to visit such as the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain Park, and Six Flags over Georgia.   Georgia is also home to many professional sportsteams, MLB Atlanta Braves, NFL Atlanta Falcons, NBA Atlanta Hawks and the WNBA Atlanta Dream.

In 1992, the largest cable-supported dome (the Millennium Dome in London is now the largest) was constructed in Atlanta and wasnamed the Georgia Dome. The Dome was the host for Super Bowl XXVIII and XXXIV, as well as the gymnastics and basketball events for the 1996 OlympicGames. The Georgia Dome is also the home stadium for the NFL Atlanta Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons franchise began as an expansion team on June 30, 1965. The Falcons made their first debut in their first preseason game on August 1, 1966 with red helmets and a black falcon crest logo. In the center of the helmet was a black stripe surrounded by 2 gold stripes and 2 white stripes. These colors represented the two college rival schools, Georgia Tech and Georgia Bulldogs. In 1992, the Atlanta Falcons started a new chapter in their history by moving into the newly constructed Georgia Dome. In 1999, the Atlanta Falcons made their first and only Super Bowl appearance, Super Bowl XXXIII where they were defeated by the Denver Broncos.   In 2003, both the logo and the uniforms were redesigned with red and silver accents to depict a more powerful, aggressive falcon, to resemble the capital letter F.   In 2009, the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-10 in the final game of the season to improve their record to 9-7. This put an end to their losing streak they previously held without consecutive winning seasons from 1966-2008. The Falcons have two players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
