Dog Leashes also called dog leads lead lines or just plain leads are used for the training control and restraint of a dog. With a wide array of designer dog leads now available the leash has become as much fashion statement as functional equipment.

Types of Dog Leashes:
STANDARD NYLON: Typically consisting of a single layer of fabric the nylon lead has a loop handle at one end with or without a clasp. The far end has whats called a Metal Bolt Snap. Other snaps sometimes used are Trigger Snaps Beefy Snaps or Lobster Claws
RIBBON NYLON: These are very similar to the Standard Nylon lead with the main difference being the layers of material used. For a Ribbon Dog Lead a ribbon pattern is sewn on to the Nylon Webbing
ROPE OR CHAINS: The most basic of dog lead the rope or chain lead sometimes does not even have a closure or loop component. Typically used for fixed point or tie down control.
LEATHER: Part fashion part function the leather dog lead blends the durability and quality of leather with a fashionable appeal. Constructed in much the same way as the standard or ribbon dog lead the leather leash usually has a loop handle and bolt snap. Another common leather lead is the braided or twisted leash. This is simply a braid of leather added mostly as a decorative element
RETRACTABLE: These have become much more popular in recent years as they allow control of the dog but still a degree of freedom for the dog to roam. The Retractable leash is made from a long rope or cord with a bolt snap at the end. The other end coils or retracts into a housing unit often made of PVC or other weather proof material. More intricate retractable leashes have a housing unit with a locking mechanism and spring to allow easy recoil. Even more intricate models add on elements such as doggie bag holders flashlights utility tools and other small utility objects.
SPECIALTY: A large number of specialty leashes have been introduced recently. These are designed for specific used such as hiking hunting biking and other outdoor activities.
