NBA Basketball - Boston Celtics
As the the 20th largest city in the United States Boston has been a prominent city since the dawn of America's beginning. Founded by Puritans in the 1630s the Massachusett's town was the site of both the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre. In the 1820s as European immigrants flocked to America Boston saw a massive influx in its population particularly Irish immigrants. The rich heritage that travelled across the Atlantic with the Irish immigrants is still prevalent today as the city celebrates with a large St. Patrick's Day parade. Neighboring Boston is the city of Cambridge which is home to Harvard one of the most famous colleges in the world making the Boston Metropolitan area one of the most educated regions in the world.
Sports have been well received for centuries in Boston. As home to the Boston Red Sox baseball team and the Boston Celtics baseketball team sports fans from all over New England gather in Boston to cheer on their favorite teams. Home to Fenway Park the oldest baseball stadium still in use in the country visitors can cheer on their team in the same place original baseball fans did in the early 1900s. As the most successful team in the NBA the Boston Celtics have an outstanding 17 championship titles. Baseketball greats Larry Bird Robert Parish and Kevin McHale were dubbed the "Big 3" and helped claim several of the Celtics championship titles during the 1980s. Most recently winning the baseketball championship in the 2007-2008 season the Celtics play in the TD Gardens which is also home to other Boston sports teams the Boston Bruins(NHL) and the Boston Blazers(NLL). Paying homage to Boston's Irish heritage the team color is green and a leprechaun wearing a shamrock vest is used as the team logo.
