Walter O'Malley and his family brought the Dodgers to Los Angeles. The team came to Los Angeles from Brooklyn New York just before the 1958 season. In those days the Dodgers did not have their home in Chavez Ravine where Dodger Stadium now sits near downtown Los Angeles. Instead the team played their first four seasons at the Los Angeles Coliseum which is the current home of the USC Trojans.The Los Angeles baseball team finished their new stadium in time for the 1962 season. Currently the Stadium stands in the top five oldest major league baseball parks in the country.
The Los Angeles baseball team came to Los Angeles to win. Like other quality sports team from Los Angeles the team came with a winning tradition. The team has won 6 World Series titles in 1955 1959 1963 1965 1981 and 1988. The Los Angeles team won the National League Pennant 21 times and won the Western Division 11 times.
The Dodgers in the 1960s were led by players like Jackie Robinson Don Drysdale Pee Wee Reese and Sandy Koufax. The 70s and 80s the team put together an infield that went down in Dodger history as one of the best. The infield of Ron Cey Bill Russell Davey Lopes and Steve Garvey made numerous appearances at the World Series.
