Located on the mouth of the Fox River, Green Bay, Wisconsin was originally named Lay Baye, and was established by French Settlers in 1634. Fur Trade was Green Bay's main industry in 1600 and 1700's. Shortly after becoming a state in the mid 1800's, lumbering became a major industry. Paper mills and meatpacking make up the majority of Green Bay's Industry today. Green Bay's metropolitan area boasts a population of 306,241. Green Bays' largest employers include Humana and Georgia-Pacific.
Commonly known as Title Town USA, Green Bay is home to professional, semi-professional and Collegiate Sports. NFL Green Bay Packers and IFC Green Bay Blizzards are among the most popular. The Packers were established in 1919 and are in the smallest market in the United States for a major league sports team. The Green Bay Packers are the only community-owned franchise in the NFL. They are owned by 112,158 individual stockholders. The Packers have won a total of 13 world championships and call their home. Vince Lombardi became the Head Coach and general manager of the Packers in 1959. During the Lombardi error the Pack became the dominating team of the 60s. Some of the biggest stars in history played during this era, including Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Will Davis and Henry Jordan.
