NFL Football - Chicago Bears
Illinois, also known as theLand of Lincoln became the 21st state on December 3, 1818. A population of roughly 12.8 million people (2010 estimate) live inIllinois. There are three major regions in Illinois. Southern Illinois is separated from the rest of the state by the Mississippi River and is home to the state capitol Springfield. Central Illinois is mostly prairie and is considered the heart of Illinois. Chicago dominates Northern Illinois as the largest city in the state and the third largest in the country. Chicago's O'Hare International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and still ranks as number one in total flights.
Illinois is home to a number of attractions including the Art Institute of Chicago, Alder Planetarium, Chicago's Millennium Park and Buckingham Fountain. The world renowned Chicago Blues Festival is held every June on the banks of Lake Michigan and boasts one of the largest gatherings of international Blues performers. Illinois is also the home to many professional sports teams, MLB Chicago Cubs, MLB Chicago White Sox, NHL Chicago Blackhawks, NFL Chicago Bears, NBA Chicago Bulls and WNBA Chicago Sky.
In 1921 the Decatur Staleys moved to Chicago and were renamed the Chicago Staleys and became a charter member of the NFL. The following year the club was renamed the Chicago Bears. The Bears dominated the early years of the NFL and between 1920 and 1959 posted 34 shutouts. Their rivalry with the neighboring Green Bay Packers started in 1921 and is one of the oldest and hottest in NFL history. The Chicago Bears have won 9 NFL Championships and one Super Bowl and boast the NFL record of have 28 member in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Chicago Bears recorded their 700th win in November of 2010 and hold the NFL record for more regular season wins than any other NFL franchise.
