NFL Football - Arizona Cardinals

Arizona, also known as the Grand Canyon State became the 48th state on February 14, 1912.  A population of roughly 6.6 million people (2009 estimate) live in Arizona.  When one thinks of Arizona they often think of a dry, hot desert.  Surprisingly, there are several different landscapes in Arizona varying from deserts, canyons, pine forests, mountain ranges, lakes and valleys. The elevations in Arizona range from 70 feet on the Colorado River to 12,633 feet on Humphrey's Peak.  These diverse elevations make it possible for the coldest or hottest temperature in the United States to be recorded in Arizona.  The amazing Grand Canyon is easily Arizona's most distinguishable landmark.

Spending time outside is easy in Arizona.  It is the perfect state for outdoor activities such as golfing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming and sightseeing.  In addition, sports fans have easy access to a wide range of professional sports.  Teams in Phoenix include Major League Baseball's 2001 World Champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks, as well as the NBA Suns and WNBA Mercury.  The adjacent city Glendale is the home of the NHL Coyotes and NFL Arizona Cardinals.

Arizona has been home to the annual Festival of College Football which includes the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, the Insight Bowl and the rotating BCS Championship football game.  The Arizona Cardinals have called Glendale home since 2006 when the newly constructed University of Phoenix Stadium  was built in 2006 in Glendale.  The Cardinals have four players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  The Cardinals have been to the playoffs only six times and won only five playoff games. Their hard work paid off during the 2008-09 season when they played in the Super Bowl XLIII and were the NFC Champions.
